Do you remember your wedding day? Do you remember the vows you made to love your husband or wife for better or for worse? The vows you made in front of all your nearest and dearest, and in front of God. Do you remember how wonderful it felt to take those first steps down the aisle as husband and wife? For some, their wedding day is a distant memory, yet it still remains one of the happiest, most special, and most significant events in their lifetime. So why not refresh those special memories by saying “I will” one more time? Below are four reasons why you should renew your wedding vows:
- You’re celebrating a major anniversary
Whether it’s been one, five, ten, twenty or even fifty years since you first said “I do,” show your spouse that you’d do it all over again in a heartbeat by renewing your vows. Each anniversary that passes is a chance to reflect on your enduring love for each other, so celebrate and give thanks!
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 118:1
- You’d like to reaffirm your commitment to each other
That promise you made when you vowed to be true to each other in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, have no doubt been tried and tried again over the years. But through it all, the love you have for each other lives on. Renewing your vows is a perfect way to acknowledge that you’ve had hardships and to celebrate glorious victory over those hardships. After all, you might not have gotten through it all without your husband or wife by your side!
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9
- Allow your children to participate in the re-enactment of your special day
Next to your wedding, the birth of a child is a pretty close second when it comes to special days in your lifetime. No doubt that your children have seen photos of your wedding day, but wouldn’t it be neat if you give them a real memory of your wedding? Renewing your vows gives you the chance to have your children there to experience the love you have for each other, and make those wedding memories even more special. After all, children tend to mirror their parents, so why not set an example for them.
“ In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
- The best reason of all – You don’t need one!
Why? Why? Why? We live in a world where we are expected to justify everything we do. So WHY should you renew your vows? Well the answer is simple: why not? You don’t need to have a reason why. Love is enough, plain and simple.
“ Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love” – 1 Corinthians 13:13
